A big bag a wheat or beans might be a great item to have in your food storage plans but how long could you eat only this with no fresh vegetables. The solution is already in your plan you just might not know it, I am refering to sprouting. Sprouting can be a great way to increase the vitamin and mineral content of the foods that you are already storing. Most grains and alot of legumes can be sprouted and eaten either raw or cooked. there are many books on sprouting that will show you how simple it is. There are the common sprouts that we all know like bean sprouts that are from mung beans, and alfalfa sprouts, but you can sprout lots of other grains and beans. Everything from quinoa, to brocccoli can be sprouted and add enzymes and ither stuff that is hard to get in a diet typical of most long term food storage plans. There are many different kinds of sprouting kits available but I prefer the simple method of useing a mason jar. The only thing you need to make sure is that your seeds are meant for sprouting and i prefer to use organic seeds so i know that there is no chemicals or pesticides on the grains.
