One of the most critical ingredients to a survive in place situation is food. We have become accustom to having food available to us at all times but during any crisis whether a natural disaster or man made all usual means of getting food will be interrupted. Some advocate that you can just stock up on regular canned food and you will be set, but i think there are some major problems with this system.
First canned food from the grocery store is not exactly long term storage. The average useful life of canned goods is only a year and so you will need to constantly rotate your stocks and keep things fresh. Next is that if the situation changes, the weight of the food makes it prohibitive to move anywhere.
With these problems in mind I think that the answer to long term food storage is solved by using freeze dried food. Freeze dried food is readily available and has a shelf life of up to 30 years of storage. It also is lightweight so that if needed you could add it to you bug out bag or vehicle and not require a heavy duty rig just to transport your supplies. Preparation of freeze dried food also is very simple and quick. Imagine having a entire years supply of food that will last for a very long time and provide your family with all the nutrition that they need to survive any interupting of everyday grocery shopping.
